Accessible web, is there?
The accessibility web is one more element of the web that must not be obviated. It could be defined as the practice of making websites accessible whatever physical or mental limitation of the user, and with the usability should be the "conditio sine qua non" for any web that has a minimum of appreciation to its users.
The problem comes when the costs of implementation according to the current standards (WAI) overcome the budgets of the companies when developing a web or the scanty importance that the comanies give to the accessibility. It's that why, among other things, do not for accessibility int the projects that we attack, or even worse, they understand that it is so insignificant that should be included in the offered budget.
The Spanish law on accessibility web that came into force on December 31, 2008 forces to the public and financial entities, among others, to have a minimum levels of accessibility, even so, neither the web of Spanish State are accessible. In fact I was surprised to read in Cinco Días that the La Moncloa website is accessible, because unfortunately it does not even valid HTML by the W3C.
In the other hand we have Caja Madrid, one of the client for whom I work, that have as dogma that the web accessibility is not an option but a right, that is why I have spent the last few days making accessible one of the latest projects we have delveloped for them. "Bravo" for Caja Madrid and hope spreads the example. But I am afraid that they are a great exception, because I do not find any accessible web however much I search.
Do you know any accesible web?
